James Johnson is an experienced arts administrator with a career spanning over three decades. Since April 2018, James has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Prior to this role, James held the position of President and Chief Executive Officer at the Omaha Symphony from June 2011 to April 2018 and was the Chief Executive Officer of The New York Pops from December 2000 to May 2011. James also served as the Director of Operations for the Orchestra of St. Luke's from February 1994 to December 2000 and was the General Manager of the Martha Graham Dance Company from August 1988 to February 1994. Academic credentials include a Master of Arts and a Master of Business Administration, both in Arts Administration from Southern Methodist University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Pacific Lutheran University.
