Yira Aponte, PhD, PEng, serves as a Senior Engineer at Imperial Oil since February 2017, focusing on process innovation and technology scale-up, and previously held the position of Lead Research Chemical Engineer, where responsibilities included process technology development and new technology application support for both downstream and upstream processes. Prior to this, Yira completed a PhD at Western University, researching in situ FCC sulfur selective adsorption using sulfur reduction additives. Yira also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, instructing courses in industrial catalysis and chemical engineering kinetics. Initial work experience includes tenures at PDVSA Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. as a Process Engineer and Intern, alongside a teaching assistant role at Universidad de Carabobo. Academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering Science, both in Chemical Engineering, with the latter degree specializing in reactor design.
