Mark Mathis has a strong background in engineering and software development. Mark is currently serving as the Head of Engineering at Impact Observatory since October 2020. Prior to that, Mark worked at Descartes Labs from December 2014 to October 2020, where they played a crucial role as a Co-Founder and Principal Engineer. During their time at Descartes Labs, Mark contributed significantly to the company's growth, designing and developing a distributed system for geospatial data exploration and analysis.
Before Descartes Labs, Mark worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory from August 2005 to December 2014. Their roles at Los Alamos included Scientist 3 from March 2010 to December 2014, Scientist 2 from July 2008 to March 2010, and Technical Staff Member from August 2005 to July 2008. At Los Alamos, they extended virtualization strategies, served as a subject area expert on web services and cloud computing, led software development teams, and implemented Agile Software Development techniques.
Mark Mathis completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University from 1994 to 1999. Subsequently, they pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Computer Science at the same institution from 1999 to 2000.
