Jay Doherty

Principal Character Artist at IllFonic

Jay Doherty has extensive experience in the field of 3D art, particularly in character design and development.

Starting in 2005, they worked as a Character Artist at Cryptic Studios, where they were responsible for creating, managing, and improving character assets for an MMO game. Jay also maintained the complexity of the modular character creation menu system and provided QA for the system.

In 2007, Jay joined Paragon Studios as a Senior Character Artist, continuing their work on City of Heroes/Villains. During their tenure, they monitored player forums to gather insight on desired character costume micro transaction packs.

From 2011 to 2013, Jay served as a Senior 3D Artist at Glu Mobile, where they upgraded and updated 3D art for the game "Gun Bros 2". Jay handled various tasks, including concept design, character and weapon creation, and rendering.

Starting in 2013, Jay worked with several small startups, including BUILT games, HighScoreHero, and C2 Game Studio, as a Lead 3D Artist and Art Director. Jay provided art direction, created style guides, and contributed to art overhauls for these projects.

At Kabam, Jay worked as a Senior Character Artist from 2013 to 2016. Jay developed a modular character system to offer a wide variety of player and NPC characters. Jay also outlined the process for character development and ensured outsourced art met quality standards.

During their time at Google in 2017, Jay held the role of Lead 3D Artist, where they were responsible for developing the visual look, feel, style, and humor of the world and characters in a VR game. Jay designed whimsical characters that aligned with the game's tone and story.

Most recently, Jay has been working at King as a Senior 3D Artist since 2017. In this role, they contributed to the development of 3D art assets for the company's games.

In 2019, Jay joined IllFonic as a Principal Character Artist, where they continue to utilize their expertise in character design.

Jay Doherty attended the DigiPen Institute of Technology from 2002 to 2004. During this time, they pursued an Associate of Arts (AA) degree with a focus on art.
