Hans Robert Metelmann

Prof. Dr. Hans Robert Metelmann is a German Plastic surgeon and Director & Professor of the Oral, Maxillofacial & Plastic Surgery Department at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University, Greifswald. From 2002-2006 he was the Minister of Education of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

After the state election in 2002, Prof. Metelmann was appointed on 6 November 2002 as Minister of Education, Science and Culture led by Prime Minister Harald Ringstorffá, state government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In this capacity, he was also a member of the Science Council.

After the state election in 2006, he retired on November 7, 2006 from office and returned to the chair at the University of Greifswald and the position of chief physician of the university hospital and full professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery and plastic surgery.

In the presidency of Hans-Olaf Henke and Ernst Theodor Rietschel, Prof.Metelmann was a member of the board of trustees of the Leibniz Association.

Since 1995, Prof. Metelmann has been a member of the Synod of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church and member of the church leadership for two terms of office. Since 2014 he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the School Foundation of the North Church.

Backhaus, Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Consumer Protection in the state government of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, led by Prime Minister Erwin Sellering, appointed Prof. Metelmann in 2012 as chairman of the “Perspective Commission for the Development of the Agricultural and Food Industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern”.

In 2013, the Commission presented its “Status and Development Report in the Master Plan Process”, which was published in the publication series “Mensch und Land” (Schibri-Verlag, Milow / Strasburg).
