Marcelo Knobel serves as an Executive Board Member at the Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS) since February 2024 and is a member of the Stanford LC Expert Network. Knobel holds a position on the Board of the IEEE Magnetics Society, elected for the term from January 2023 to December 2025, and is a Board Member of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC) since July 2022. Additionally, Knobel acts as the Curator for the inaugural Academic Jabuti Prize, focusing on academic and technical books, and serves on the Advisory Boards of the Center for International Higher Education, the Bori Agency, and the Question of Science Institute. A member of the governing board of the Magna Charta Observatory, Knobel has been a Full Professor of Physics at UNICAMP since 1995, where also held the roles of Rector and Director of the Science Museum. Academic credentials include a PhD in Physics from Universidade Estadual de Campinas and an honorary doctorate from Universidad Mayor de San Andrés.
