Tomasz Wolak has extensive experience in the field of engineering and software development, specializing in digital signal processing (DSP) and multimedia technologies. Tomasz began their career in 1997 as a Post-Grad Research Software Developer at the Center for Telecommunication Research at Columbia University. From 1998 to 2003, they worked as a DSP Design Engineer at Real-Time Digital, where they developed signal processing algorithms for telephony and Voice-Over-IP applications.
In 2003, Wolak joined Orbacom Systems Inc. as a Senior Design Engineer, leading the development of the DSP subsystem for the T5 Communications Control Switch. Tomasz was responsible for designing and implementing the DSP firmware and FPGA hardware architecture to support technologies such as VoIP, Ethernet, and wireless mobile data.
Moving on in 2004, Wolak joined Agere Systems as a Senior DSP Systems Engineer, where they were part of a team that developed award-winning DSP architecture for carrier-class media gateway applications. Tomasz contributed to the successful launch of three generations of multi-core multimedia DSPs, namely StarPro2500, StarPro2600, and StarPro2700.
In the same year, Wolak also worked at LSI as a Principal DSP Engineer (DMTS). In this role, they defined unified APIs for various video codec modules and was responsible for the architecture and development of carrier-class DSP media processing software.
From 2014 to 2018, Wolak joined Intel Corporation as a Senior R&D Software Engineer. During their tenure, they worked on implementing a 3D object detection algorithm in FPGA for autonomous driving LiDAR subsystems. Tomasz achieved significant performance improvements, reducing execution time by 10x compared to CPU implementation. Tomasz also contributed to the development of software stacks for video analytics in data center environments.
Most recently, since 2018, Wolak has been working at IDEX Biometrics as a Principal Engineer, although no specific details are available about their responsibilities in this role.
Tomasz Wolak completed their education in a chronological order. From 1990 to 1997, they attended the Czech Technical University in Prague, where they obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in EE with a focus on Telecommunications Engineering and Digital Signal Processing.
In 2018, Tomasz enrolled at Udacity and earned a Nanodegree in Self-Driving Car Engineering, which they completed in 2019.
In addition to their formal education, Tomasz Wolak also obtained two certification courses. In 2016, they received a certification in Machine Learning from Coursera, and in 2018, they obtained a certification in Neural Networks and Deep Learning, also from Coursera.
