Bert Van Vlerken has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and industries. Bert currently works as a Software Developer at Hysopt, where they contribute to the growth of the company's software portfolio, focusing on designing HVAC systems that reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. Prior to this, Bert worked at Mazda Motor Belux / Mazda Motor Logistics Europe, where they initially served as a Senior Java Developer and later transitioned into the role of Software Architect. Bert also developed a multi-threaded TFTP server during this time. Subsequently, they joined the team responsible for creating a new generation Element Management Platform for DSLAMs, where they played a key role in prototyping and guiding the global architecture and design. Bert also worked as an (Expert) Research Engineer at Alcatel-Lucent, where they focused on de-risking software technologies for network services, involving both network-oriented and IT-oriented work.

Additionally, Bert worked at Touchatag, an Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs Venture, as a Software Architect, focusing on developing a Do It Yourself RFID Platform. Throughout their career, Bert has demonstrated a strong technical aptitude, a wide range of skills, and a dedication to problem-solving and innovation in the software development field.

Bert Van Vlerken completed their education at KU Leuven Faculty of Engineering Technology - De Nayer Campus from 1997 to 2001. Bert obtained a Master's degree in Science with a specialization in Information and Communications Technology (Applied Engineering). In addition to their formal education, Bert also received certifications in various subjects. In May 2013, they obtained a certification in "Pattern-Oriented Software Architectures for Concurrent and Networked Mobile Devices and Clouds" from Coursera. Bert also acquired certifications in "Functional Programming Principles in Scala" and "Machine Learning" from Coursera in November 2012 and July 2012, respectively.
