Nick Barendt is currently an advisor at Hyr Medical. Previously, they were the founding curator of the Cleveland Hub for the Global Shapers Community from July 2013 to June 2014. The Global Shapers Community is a network of city-based Hubs developed and led by young leaders between 20 and 30 years old who want to develop their leadership potential towards serving society. To that end, Hubs undertake local projects to improve their communities.
Prior to their work with the Global Shapers Community, Nick was the director of studio at LeanDog from January 2012 to July 2016. At LeanDog, they were responsible for firmware development for medical imaging printers. Nick eliminated unit-to-unit variations in print length by adding calibrated line-pitch support and developed a compression algorithm for NVRAM storage of large calibration compensation data sets. Nick also improved the accuracy of real-time media edge-detection algorithm by 80% with grayscale morphology, resulting in wider imageable areas while still safeguarding against damaging overprinting.
From August 2016 to present, Nick has been the executive director of the Institute for Smart, Secure and Connected Systems (ISSACS) at Case Western Reserve University.
Nick Barendt studied electrical engineering at Case Western Reserve University, where they earned their BS and MS degrees.
