Barb Roethler is an experienced professional with a diverse background in communications and media. Barb currently serves as the Director of Communications and Community Relations at Huron Valley Schools, where they are responsible for optimizing the district's reputation through an advertising plan and overseeing the district website and social media. Prior to their current role, Barb worked as a Lecturer at Eastern Michigan University. Barb also served as the Director of Communications and Marketing for the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion. Barb has extensive experience in the news industry, having held positions such as News Director at WILX-TV, Assistant News Director at WXYZ-TV, and Digital Director at WDIV Local 4 News/ClickOnDetroit. Barb began their career as a News Director at WEYI-NBC25, WSMH-FOX66, and WBSF-CW46.
Barb Roethler obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Broadcast from Central Michigan University, graduating in 1993. In terms of additional certifications, Barb obtained various certifications in 2022, including ICS 300 Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents and ICS 400 Advanced ICS Command and General Staff Complex Incidents from the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services. Barb also obtained certifications such as IS 800- National Response Framework, An Introduction, IS-00029.a Public Information Officer Awareness, IS-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System, IS-200 Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response, and IS-700 An Introduction to the National Incident Management System from FEMA. Additionally, Barb obtained the Group 1: All Staff (IPS) certification from the CITI Program in April 2022.
