Donna Saunders is an experienced financial professional with a diverse background in various industries. Donna is currently serving as the Controller at Huntsville Utilities since 2021. Previously, they worked at the Port of Huntsville - Huntsville International Airport from 2017 to 2021, where they served as the Controller and led a team responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions. Prior to that, they were the Chief Financial Officer at WellStone Behavioral Health from 2014 to 2017, where they actively participated in the management and strategic formulation of the organization. Donna also has experience as the Director of Accounting at Easter Seals Greater Washington Baltimore Region from 2011 to 2014, where they effectively managed the accounting department and served as a key point of contact for audits. Earlier in their career, they worked as the Director of General Accounting at Doctors Community Hospital from 2007 to 2011, overseeing the accounting department and preparing financial statements. Donna started their career at The AES Corporation in 2004 as a Senior General Accountant II, supervising accounts payable and payroll departments and handling financial transactions for a global energy organization.

Donna Saunders completed their Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Business/Management from the University of Maryland in the years 1987 to 1991. Donna later pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of North Alabama from 2015 to 2019. Donna obtained several certifications throughout their career, including Certified Public Accountant from both the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation in October 1995 and the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy in February 2016. Donna also holds a Chartered Global Management Accountant certification from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, obtained in August 2012. In addition, Donna earned an Ethical Leadership Certification from the NASBA Center for the Public Trust in July 2015, and a Mental Health First Aid certification from the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare in May 2016.
