Erik Backlund

Head Coach - Competition Teams at Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl, Inc.

Erik Backlund has a diverse work experience spanning different industries and roles. Erik is currently the Head Coach for Competition Teams at Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl, Inc. Prior to this, they worked as a U-14 Alpine Ski Coach at Jack Frost/Big Boulder Ski Resorts. Erik also served as the Director of Strategic Ops. for the Health Design Lab and Consultant to the Office of the President at Thomas Jefferson University. Erik has experience in sales, having worked at Buckman's Ski & Snowboard Shops. Additionally, they took on the role of an At-Home Dad while working at Stay at Home Dad. Earlier in their career, they were an Assistant Professor at Saint Lawrence University and a Research Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Erik also worked as a Forestry Technician at the US Forest Service and as a Graduate Research Assistant at Clemson University.

Erik Backlund has an extensive education history, beginning with their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Parks, Recreation and Leisure Studies, which they obtained from Ithaca College from 1996 to 2000. Erik then pursued further education and obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Management from Clemson University from 2000 to 2002. Erik continued their academic journey and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Recreation, Sport, & Tourism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 2002 to 2008.

In addition to their formal education, Erik Backlund has also obtained several certifications. Some notable certifications include Logistic Regression in R and Excel, Marketing Analytics: Setting and Measuring KPIs, R Statistics Essential Training, Social Network Analysis Using R, Balanced Scorecard and Key Performance Indicators, Measuring Business Performance, Up and Running with R. Erik obtained these certifications from LinkedIn in various months of 2017. Erik has also earned certifications in CPR and First Aid from the American Red Cross in December 2016, and a Level 300 Alpine Coach certification from the United States Ski and Snowboard Association in December 2014.
