Simo L. has a diverse and extensive work experience in software engineering and technology-related roles. Starting in 2004, they worked as a developer for Archlinux until 2009. During this time, Simo also had a role as a teaching assistant at the Center for Talent Development from 2007 to 2008. Simo then joined Rapleaf as a software engineering intern, working on web crawling/scraping and data pipeline services using Ruby and Java. They later transitioned to become a full-time software engineer at Rapleaf, focusing on Ruby to Java ports and utilizing Hadoop/Cascading.

In 2011, Simo joined Square as a software engineer, where they were part of the Tail of Tiger Team on the HIT Squad. In this role, they were responsible for project management, software engineering, network operations and systems administration, cross-team coordination, and software architecture. Notably, Simo conducted over 550 technical interviews during their time at Square. Simo continued to work at Square until 2016.

Following their tenure at Square, Simo established their own company, Simo, LLC, where they provided freelance software engineering services. They offered advising on technical topics and infrastructure-related decisions, as well as buy vs. build analysis.

In 2017, Simo founded Volley Travel, serving as both the founder and CTO. Volley Travel aimed to inspire travel through stories and created an integrated travel platform based on experiences shared by friends and influencers. Simo led the development of the platform and managed the technical aspects of the company until 2019.

From 2019 to 2020, Simo worked at Swappie as the Head of Engineering, overseeing the scaling of the engineering team from 5 to 20+ members. They played a critical role in making refurbished smartphones mainstream.

In 2020, Simo joined Hummingbird as a Senior Software Engineer, contributing their expertise in software development.

Currently, Simo is also working as a Freelance Software Engineer under the company Tmi Simo Leone, providing independent software engineering services.
