Josua Loots is the Head of Legal & Compliance, Switzerland at Humanstate. Before that, they were a Board Member at The International Code of Conduct for Private Security Providersā Association (ICoCA) from September 2016 to September 2019. In this role, they represented the civil society pillar of the International Code of Conduct Association (ICoCA) on the Board of Directors.
From January 2017 to September 2019, Josua was a Researcher at International Development Law Unit, where they worked on research projects pertaining to international financial institutions and regulation, development finance, renewable energy and infrastructure.
Between June 2013 and January 2016, Josua was the Project Manager: Working Group on Extractive Industries, Environment & Human Rights at African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights. In this role, they were responsible for arranging and coordinating the Working Group's field visits to selected African countries; assisting with desktop and field research on extractive industries; assisting with report, policy and guidelines development and writing; and arranging and coordinating workshops.
Josua Loots has a Doctorate of Laws (LLD) from the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria in the field of Public International Law, International Human Rights Law & Development Law. Josua also has a Master of Laws (LLM) Cum Laude from the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria in the field of Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa. Their undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria.
