Frances Valdez serves as the Executive Director of Houston in Action since June 2018, demonstrating a strong leadership role in community engagement and advocacy. Prior to this, Frances owned FValdezLaw PC from August 2007 to May 2018, and held positions as an Immigration Attorney at Neighborhood Centers Inc. and Dow School/Capital Campaign Director at MECA. Frances began the legal career as a Clinical Fellow at the University of Texas School of Law Immigration Clinic, supervising law students in various immigration legal matters. Early positions included law clerk roles at Catholic Charities, MALDEF, Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts, and the Political Asylum Project of Austin, focusing on immigration and civil rights issues. Frances holds a J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law and a B.A. in Latin American Studies and Mexican American Studies from The University of Texas at Austin.
