Stephen Diegelmann, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Stephen started their career as an Undergraduate in Chemistry at Hampden-Sydney College, where they conducted research projects on functionalized dendrimers and metal-histidine complexes. Stephen then pursued their Graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University, specializing in the synthesis and characterization of water-soluble self-assembling peptides for the development of biologically active nanowires. Following this, they worked as a Postdoc Polymer Chemist at the Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering and Department of Chemical Engineering. Stephen then transitioned to industry, joining Afton Chemical as a Sr. R&D Chemist, focusing on detergent development for engine oils before becoming a Gasoline Performance Additives Formulator. Currently, they hold key positions at Horizons Incorporated and Horizons Imaging Systems Group as the Chief Operating Officer. Stephen is responsible for overseeing operations, product technology, and R&D in printable aluminum technologies and identification substrates. Dr. Diegelmann also gained experience during their time as an REU at the University of Virginia, where they synthesized novel T-type calcium channel inhibitors. Stephen Diegelmann, Ph.D. obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemistry from Hampden-Sydney College, where they studied from 2002 to 2006.
