Al Batschelet is the CEO and Co-Founder of Horizon Strategies, a professional services firm that provides leadership, strategy, and people alignment solutions to clients, primarily in government, business, and education sectors. Al is also the Co-Founder and Principal at Bacara LLC, which offers end solutions to customers in multiple industries using unmanned systems, including LiDAR, RTK RGB, and thermal and multispectral sensors. Additionally, Batschelet is the Chief Executive Officer of the First Responders Foundation and an Advisor to the Information Professionals Association. Al serves as a Board Member at CHI Health Immanuel, a Trustee at the Business Ethics Alliance of Omaha, and an Editorial Board Member at the Arthur D Simons Center for Interagency Cooperation. Moreover, Batschelet is a member of the Board of Advisors at Iowa State University - College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a Special Advisor to the Commander's Strategic Advisory Group at USSTRATCOM. Beginning in 2023, they will serve as a County Supervisor at Clay County Iowa.
Al Batschelet has an extensive education history. In 1979, they earned a Bachelor of Science in both Political Science and History from Iowa State University. Two years later, they returned to the same university to complete their undergraduate studies, majoring in History. After that, they joined the US Army, where they earned various master's degrees over the years. In 1993, they earned a Master of Military Arts and Science from the US Army Command and General Staff College, where they studied Military Security Policy and Strategy. A year later, they earned another Master of Military Arts and Science from the School for Advanced Military Studies, focusing on Military and Strategic Leadership. In 2001, they attended the US Army War College and completed their Master of Strategic Arts in Military and Strategic Leadership. Al earned a certificate in International Relations and Affairs in 2010 after completing the NATO Defense College's General and Flag Officers and Ambassadors Course. In 2011, they earned a Certificate in Purchasing, Procurement/ Acquisitions, and Contract Management from the Army Force Management School and a Certificate in Executive Development from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
