Anca Timofte

Co-Founder + CEO at Holocene

Anca Timofte has a diverse range of work experience in the fields of climate technology, engineering, research, and consulting. Starting in 2010, they worked as an Engineering Consultant at the Interdisciplinary Environmental Clinic, where they prepared technical documents on the health and environmental effects of coal combustion products and researched repowering options for coal-fired power plants. In 2012, they interned at Climeworks, producing batches of adsorbent material and optimizing production quality. Anca continued their work at Climeworks from 2013 to 2020, first as a Process Engineer and Project Manager in R&D, where they designed process workflows and standards for carbon dioxide capture plants, and later as the Team Leader of the Process Engineering team, where they focused on efficiency improvements and reducing project execution time. During this time, they also worked as a Visiting Student Researcher at Stanford University, investigating the uptake of emerging water contaminants into plants and evaluating recycled water crop irrigation and phytoremediation strategies. Currently, Anca Timofte is completing their MBA at Stanford University Graduate School of Business, focusing on Climate Tech and Climate Finance with a specialization in Carbon Dioxide Removal. In July 2022, they co-founded Holocene, where they hold the position of Co-Founder and CEO.

Anca Timofte has a diverse education history. Anca completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical & Environmental Engineering, along with a minor in German, at Washington University in St. Louis. Anca then pursued further studies at ETH Zürich, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering. Anca also engaged in research work during their time at Stanford University as a Master's thesis/Visiting Student Researcher, focusing on the field of phytoremediation. Additionally, they participated in a Summer Program at Yonsei University, specializing in Nanotechnology and Nanotoxicology.
