Carol Applegate has extensive experience in community service and healthcare research. Since 2005, Carol has been a member and served as President of the Greater Jacksonville, MD Optimist Club, focusing on leadership and social activities for children. Additionally, Carol has been a Corporate Board Trustee for the Hugh O'Brian Youth Maryland Leadership Seminar since 1984, coordinating funds and implementing leadership programs for high school students. As an Ophthalmic Research Coordinator at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center from 2006 to July 2024, Carol contributed to groundbreaking research on Stargardt Juvenile Macular Degeneration. Previous roles include Program Vice President for the Hugh O'Brian Youth World Leadership Conference, volunteering to lead an international seminar, Training Coordinator at Adell Plastics, and Research Coordinator at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute, where Carol specialized in age-related macular degeneration. Carol holds a Master of Liberal Arts degree from The Johns Hopkins University.
