Skylar Payne has a diverse work experience, beginning with an Undergraduate Researcher position at UC Irvine in 2013. In 2014, they were a Research and Development Intern at Hitachi Solutions America, Ltd- Business Solution Group. In 2015, they were a Software Engineer at Google, where they improved infrastructure for interactively running large end to end tests. In 2016, they joined LinkedIn as a Senior Software Engineer, Machine Learning, where they led the design and implementation of a machine learning system to dynamically generate questions to refine a user's hiring intentions. Skylar also conducted several analyses to identify gaps in machine learning relevance and sent out a daily diagnostic email filled with metrics of the backend service. In 2020, they joined Mindstrong as a Senior Software Engineer, Machine Learning, where they were the Tech Lead of "MindViz" and led efforts to build re-usable infra to productionize new models/data visualizations. In 2021, they joined HealthRhythms as a Machine Learning Lead, leading efforts to build reliable, responsible, and scalable data and machine learning practices.

Skylar Payne has an education history that includes a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from UC Irvine, which they obtained between 2013 and 2015. Prior to this, they attended Bakersfield College from 2011 to 2013.
