Bettina McMahon has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Bettina began their career in 1995 at the NSW Environment Protection Authority, where they worked as an Entry Level Compliance Officer, Business Analyst/Tester, and Project Manager. In 2003, they joined the Department of Finance as Manager Information Interoperability, where they improved information flows across government departments and developed the Australian Government Information Operability Framework. From 2005 to 2007, they worked as the State Manager Compliance, Counter-Terrorism Air Cargo at the Office of Transport Security, where they partnered with intelligence agencies and air cargo operators to manage the risk of terrorist activity. Bettina then held senior management roles at AUSTRAC from 2007 to 2009, where they led teams and assessed compliance of regulated entities. Bettina joined NEHTA in 2009, where they held various Senior Executive positions, including Acting Chief Executive Officer, Head of Risk & Assurance, and Head of Policy & Information Services. In 2016, they led NEHTA through a transition to the Australian Digital Health Agency. From 2016 to 2020, Bettina worked at the Australian Digital Health Agency as Interim Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Executive General Manager, Government & Industry Collaboration & Adoption. Currently, they are the Chief Executive Officer at Healthdirect Australia. In 2020, they also took on the role of Chair of the Board at the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH).
Bettina McMahon has a diverse education history. Bettina obtained a Bachelor's degree in Education with a focus on Chinese History from Macquarie University in 1996. In 1999, they completed a Master's degree in Public Policy from the University of Sydney. In 2007, they pursued an MBA in IT Management from the University of Technology Sydney. In 2010, they obtained a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance from Kaplan Australia. Additionally, they completed a Certificate of Government in Statutory Compliance from Swinburne University of Technology in 2006. In 2015, they furthered their knowledge in governance by completing the Foundations of Directorship Course from the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Furthermore, Bettina holds certifications as a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health and as a Member Australian Institute of Company Directors, both obtained in 2020.
