Ed Spade is President of Sales for HarperCollins Publishers. He is responsible for directing the global sales effort for the company’s English-language books published by the General Books, Children’s Books, and Harlequin divisions in the U.S. He was appointed to this position in January 2023 and sits on the company’s global executive committee.
Spade was appointed Senior Vice President, Online Sales, for HarperCollins in 2021 when he joined the organization after the company acquired HMH Books & Media (HMH). Prior to the acquisition, he served as Interim President of HMH, managing the strategic direction of the organization, including its publishing units, operations, sales, and marketing.
Spade joined HMH in 2017, eventually serving as VP, National Accounts & Sales and Head of Audio. In those roles, he managed the sales team for trade retail, wholesale, field, and online sales, in addition to overseeing the launch of HMH’s audio division, expansion of experimentation in digital business models and sales, and exponential growth in the school market. Prior to his time at HMH, Spade held sales leadership roles at Ingram Content Group and Viacom. He began his career at Penguin Young Readers Group, working closely with authors to bring their books to interactive multimedia and audio.
