Barbara Blackwell has an extensive work experience in the field of nursing and education. Barbara currently holds the position of Executive Director of Simulation Learning & Research at Hampton University since September 2022. Barbara also serves as the Chairperson Assistant Professor and Interim Assistant Dean for Research at the same university. Barbara has been with Hampton University since August 2018, where they first started as the Chairperson of Undergraduate Nursing.
Before their time at Hampton University, Barbara worked as the Director of the School of Nursing at Holy Name Medical Center from January 2011 to July 2018. Prior to that, they held a position as an Assistant Nursing Care Coordinator at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center for a remarkable period of 30 years, from August 1980 to December 2010.

Barbara Blackwell holds a Doctorate degree in Education from the University of Phoenix, which they obtained from 2007 to 2011. Barbara also has a Masters Degree in Nursing Education with a focus on Nursing Executive Role Administration/Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, earned from 1984 to 1986. Additionally, they hold an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Nursing from Pace University (1978-1980) and a Bachelors of Science degree from Fordham University (1974-1978).
