Joyce Tan Vela is an accomplished architect and educator currently serving as an Adjunct Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology since August 2024 and as a member of the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity Chicago since March 2021. With extensive experience in project management and architecture, Joyce worked as a Senior Project Architect and Project Manager at Canopy / architecture + design from March 2023 to June 2024, contributing to significant affordable housing projects such as the Humboldt Park United Methodist Church Adaptive Reuse and Urban Native American Housing in Chicago. Prior experience includes a tenure as a Senior Associate at LCM Architects, where Joyce managed multi-family residential developments in Goodyear, AZ, as well as a Project Architect role at Antunovich Associates, leading projects like the Thrive Academy Campus in Baton Rouge, LA. Educational credentials include a Bachelor of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the National University of Singapore.
