Luke Sonnet has extensive work experience in data science and research roles. Luke is currently working as the Lead Data Scientist at GrowthBook (YC W22) since January 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Twitter as a Senior Data Scientist in Experimentation Data Science from August 2022 to January 2023, and as a Data Scientist in Experimentation Data Science from October 2021 to August 2022.

Luke also worked at Facebook as a Research Scientist in the Demography & Survey Science team from August 2020 to September 2021. Luke focused on survey weighting and design, causal inference, statistical software, fairness, and machine learning model evaluation. Before this, they had an internship at Facebook as a Research Scientist Intern in the same team from June 2019 to August 2019.

Additionally, Luke has experience as a Replication Fellow at Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) from October 2018 to March 2019. Luke also worked as an Open Source Developer at DeclareDesign from September 2017 to June 2018, where they wrote software in R and C++ for the declaredesign.org suite of software for experimental design and analysis. Luke was the primary author of the estimatr R package.

Luke's earlier experiences include working as a Full Stack Developer at VoteView.com from January 2016 to July 2017, where they updated ideology scores for US congress people and developed back-end pipelines and front-end interfaces. Luke also worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2017 and 2016.

Luke Sonnet completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, Political Science, and History at the University of Pittsburgh from 2009 to 2012. Luke then pursued further education and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Political Science from UCLA between the years 2013 and 2020.
