Leona Wai currently serves as the Malaysia Program Coordinator at Green Empowerment since March 2023, where responsibilities include supporting local partners in project implementation, tracking progress, and developing new project proposals. Previously, Leona worked as a Research Officer at TONIBUNG from April 2021 to February 2023, conducting feasibility studies for community-based renewable energy systems. Leona's experience also includes a role as a Conservation Officer at Danau Girang Field Centre from February 2016 to October 2020, focusing on small carnivores-related research. Leona gained research skills through an internship at Oregon State University, where training in environmental DNA techniques occurred. Educational qualifications include a Master's degree in Conservation Biology from Universiti Malaysia Sabah and a Bachelor's degree in the same field from the same institution. Additionally, Leona completed a Diploma in Science at Labuan Matriculation College and a high school education in Science at St. Michael High School.
