About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled hands-on Senior Architect with a deep expertise in both coding and product architecture. The ideal candidate will be proficient in full stack development, with a strong focus on both frontend (JS, React, GraphQL, Apollo) and backend (Ruby on Rails, Postgres, Redis) technologies.
This position must be based in our Boston office and is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work remotely 2-3 days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Architectural Design:
- Lead the design and development of scalable, robust, and secure product architectures.
- Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to define technical requirements and product specifications.
- Create and maintain architectural documentation, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
2. Full Stack Development:
- Develop, test, and maintain front-end web applications using Javascript, React, GraphQL, and Apollo.
- Develop, test and maintain back-end services and APIs using Ruby, Rails, Graphql, Postgres, Redis and Elasticsearch
- Ensure seamless integration of front-end and back-end components.
- Optimize application performance and ensure responsiveness across devices and browsers.
3. Technical Leadership:
- Mentor and guide junior developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Conduct code reviews, providing constructive feedback to ensure high-quality code standards.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending innovative solutions to enhance our tech stack.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including designers, product managers, and QA engineers.
- Break down complex work streams into achievable stories and tasks with proper effort estimation.
- Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Facilitate technical discussions and decision-making processes.
- Start-up mindset, with “think like an owner” mentality.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Senior Architect or similar role, with a strong portfolio of successful projects.
- Expertise writing SQL and using Postgres, including transactions, indexing, and identifying performance related issues like (n+1) queries
- Expertise using object-relational (ORM) frameworks (ActiveRecord) including eager loading and relationship management
- Expertise in data modeling and schema development
- Expertise with Ruby on Rails
- Experience writing performant API's in Graphql
- Expertise writing frontend applications using Javascript, React, Apollo, Graphql queries/mutations, caching, single page app.
- Proficiency in styling and layout, using HTML, CSS, and styled-components
- Experience using UI component libraries (Material)
- Experience with automated testing frameworks, such as Jest, Playwright and Rspec
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Salary: $170,000 – $210,000 + benefits, bonus, and equity
Actual compensation packages are determined by evaluating a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, education, certifications, cost of labor and internal equity.
