Gemma Salacchi's work experience begins in 2007 with a student internship as a pharmacist trainee at Farmacia Burelli. From 2009 to 2010, they worked as a Master Thesis Student at the Pharmacology Laboratory of the University of Perugia, conducting research on diabetes. In 2011, they served as an Assistant Professor at the Università degli Studi di Perugia, providing support and assistance in the "Toxicology Elements and Experimental Pharmacology" course.

Moving forward, in 2012, Gemma worked as a QA documentation specialist at Gambro. In 2013, they undertook roles as an Assistant Scientist at Janssen, Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson and Johnson, and as an ADP analyst at CheckMark Labrecruitment. In 2014, they worked at Abbott as a Quality System Specialist and subsequently as a QC specialist.

Currently, they hold the title of Associate Director, Data Analytics Quality & Supply Chain Lead at Galapagos, a position they started in 2023.

Gemma Salacchi obtained a Master's degree in Pharmaceutical and technology chemistry from the Università degli Studi di Perugia from 2004 to 2011. In 2014 and 2015, they attended the TSM Business School for a Personal and Professional Development Program. Gemma also briefly studied at Universidad de Granada in 2006 and had some education at University College Dublin and Winchester College, although specific details are not provided.
