Derek Tsoi has a diverse work experience starting from being an Engineering Intern at PA Consulting Group in 2011. Derek then worked as an Assistant Engineer (Strategy) at The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) from 2013 to 2015. In 2015, Derek co-founded Employagility and served as a Co-founder until 2016. Derek also co-founded another company called Parent Genie in 2018 and held the position of Co-founder until 2019. Derek had a role as a Data Analytics Intern (Product ) at Udemy in 2017. Derek then joined Glints in 2020, where they served as Glints Academy Lead until 2021 and later took on the role of General Manager (Ready Talent) from 2022 until the end date is unknown. Derek currently holds the position of Product Lead (Recruitment Service) at Glints since December 2022.

Derek Tsoi holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Natural Sciences (Materials Science) from the University of Cambridge. Derek also earned a Master of Arts degree from the Stanford University Graduate School of Education and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
