Azanaw Mengistu has a diverse work experience, starting with their current role as a Senior Financial Economist at Ginnie Mae since November 2022. Prior to this, they worked at Fannie Mae, where they held positions such as Senior Associate Economics and Lead Associate Economics from September 2018 to November 2022. Azanaw also worked as a Research Analyst at the International Monetary Fund from October 2014 to August 2018. Before that, they worked at Fannie Mae again, where they served as a Business Analyst II and Financial Analyst from October 2012 to September 2014 and from April 2010 to October 2012, respectively. In 2010, they had an internship at Ayuda as an Immigration Law Intern. Finally, in 2009, they gained experience as a Research Assistant Intern at the Corporate Council on Africa, where they assisted in organizing events, compiled news articles, and conducted research on business opportunities in Africa.
Azanaw Mengistu completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics at Georgetown University from 2005 to 2009. In 2007 and 2008, they also participated in a study abroad program at Universidad San Francisco de Quito, where they focused on major coursework in Economics. Subsequently, from 2010 to 2012, Azanaw pursued a Master of Arts degree in International Trade and Investment Policy at The George Washington University, specializing in Development Economics. Finally, they attended the University of Maryland from 2020 to 2022, earning a Master of Science degree in Applied Economics.
