Chris Thierfelder

Senior Director of Research & Development at GI Dynamics

Chris Thierfelder has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Their most recent role, starting in 2023, is as the Senior Director of Research & Development at Morphic Medical, a medical device company focused on the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity. In this position, they oversee research, development, engineering, and manufacturing functions, as well as the development of product and IP portfolio.

Prior to that, Chris worked as a Senior Principal Consultant at TWC Group, LLC starting in 2021. TWC is a consultancy focused on talent development for middle management leaders. Chris's role involved offering intensive courses, such as the Project Management Masterclass, to enhance project management skills.

In 2019, Chris hosted a business podcast called "A Case of the Mondays Podcast" where they discussed various ideas in the business world.

From 2013 to 2018, Chris held the position of Director of Research and Development at Avanos Medical, where they built a product development organization and program management organization. Chris was recognized for their ability to execute projects on-time and on-budget.

In 2013, Chris worked as a Senior Director of Prize Development at XPRIZE, where they developed programs to incentivize breakthroughs in healthcare.

Other notable roles include Director of Product Development at ValenTx from 2011 to 2013, Independent Consultant from 2010 to 2011, and Manager of Front-End Innovation at Coloplast A/S from 2007 to 2010.

Chris Thierfelder has a strong educational background, with degrees in both business and biomedical engineering. Chris obtained a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with a concentration in Executive Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management, where they studied from 2009 to 2011. Prior to that, they completed a Master of Science (M.S.) in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Vermont from 1998 to 2000. Chris began their academic journey at Marquette University, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biomedical Engineering from 1994 to 1998.

In addition to their formal degrees, Chris Thierfelder has also obtained various certifications. Chris completed the Leading for Creativity--Certificate of Completion from IDEO U in March 2017. In January 2011, they received the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the PMI Minnesota Chapter.
