Martin Visbeck is a distinguished academic in the field of physical oceanography, currently serving as a Professor at GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel since October 2004. Visbeck has also been associated with Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory as an Adjunct Senior Scientist and Principal Researcher since October 1994. Prior to this, Visbeck held the position of Associate Professor at Columbia University in the City of New York from September 1999 to October 2004, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from January 1993 to October 1994. The academic journey began with a PhD and Diplom in Physical Oceanography from Kiel University, where studies took place from 1983 to 1993.
