Nihar Ranjan Bhattacharjee serves as Director of Engineering Geology at the Geological Survey of India (GSI) in Chennai since April 2017, overseeing all Engineering Geology projects in Tamil Nadu and contributing to national initiatives like the Pump Storage Project for renewable energy. Previously, Nihar was the Director of Finance at GSI's Central Headquarters in Kolkata, managing comprehensive financial operations. With extensive experience as a Superintending Geologist responsible for multiple projects including the Suntaley Khola and Turga Pump Storage projects, and as Resident Geologist for the Punatsangchhu Hydro Electric Project, Nihar has demonstrated expertise in geological evaluation and project management since starting with GSI in 2002. Nihar also worked as a consultant and faculty in GIS development prior to joining GSI, where involvement in various high-profile GIS projects and international conferences was notable. Nihar holds a Master's degree in Geology/Earth Science from Banaras Hindu University.
