John Peden

Chief Bioinformatician at GenPAx

John Peden has an extensive work experience in the field of bioinformatics. John is currently working as the Chief Bioinformatician at GENPAX AG since November 2021. Prior to this, they worked at Illumina for 10 years, where they held various roles including Senior Staff Bioinformatician and Senior Bioinformatics Scientist. During their time at Illumina, they focused on developing informatic solutions for next generation sequencing technologies and specialized in whole genome rare genetic disease and cancer targeted sequencing applications. Before joining Illumina, John worked at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford as a Project Manager and Senior Bioinformatician. Their roles there involved supporting the PROCARDIS study and being responsible for bioinformatics, data analysis, and software development. John also worked at Oxagen as a Principal Scientist in the Computational Biology Group and at the Medical Research Council as a Senior Bioinformatican. John's work experience also includes being the Manager of the Oxford University Bioinformatics Centre at the University of Oxford, where they provided support and consultancy for researchers in the field of bioinformatics. Overall, John Peden has a diverse background and significant expertise in bioinformatics.

John Peden completed their education in the field of biotechnology and genetics. John obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology from Dublin City University between 1983 and 1987. John then pursued a Master of Science degree in Microbiology at the University of Galway from 1988 to 1991. Following this, John pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil) degree in Genetics at Trinity College Dublin from 1992 to 1993. Finally, they completed a Doctorate degree (Ph.D) in Genetics from the University of Nottingham between 1993 and 1995.
