Virginia Fuentes

Virginia Fuentes-Itarte has a diverse work experience in the field of human resources. Virginia is currently serving as the Head of People & Culture at the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD). In this role, they are leading the transformation of the People & Culture Unit, implementing digitization processes, and promoting core values activities.

Prior to their current role, Virginia worked at Human Rights Watch as the Associate Director of Global Human Resources. Virginia managed the Learning and Development, Performance and Compensation Unit and was responsible for implementing the Global Compensation Philosophy Project across multiple countries. Virginia also supported the Chief People Officer in divisional planning and ensuring compliance with international regulations and internal policies.

Before joining Human Rights Watch, Virginia worked at Lumos as a Senior HR Business Partner, where they supported managers and leaders in delivering organizational performance and oversaw HR operations and legal compliance in multiple countries.

Virginia also gained experience at Malaria Consortium and AL-VIR Project, where they held project management and operations consultant roles respectively. Additionally, they have worked as an HR Consultant at Escuela Nacional Central de Agricultura (ENCA) and Telstar Group.

Virginia Fuentes-Itarte (She/Her/Hers) has a Master's Degree in Human Resources Management/Personnel Administration from CEF Centro de Estudios Financieros, which they obtained from 2010 to 2011. Prior to that, they completed a Postgraduate degree in European Studies from Universitat Oberta de Catalunya from 2006 to 2007. Virginia also holds an Expert degree in European Studies and Human Rights from Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, which they earned from 2007 to 2008. Additionally, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which they completed from 2000 to 2003.
