Handan Akil, MD, FEBOpht, FICO, MRCSEd, is a locum consultant at Royal Victoria Infirmary and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since August 2023 and 2022, respectively. Currently serving as an ophthalmologist at Barts Health NHS Trust since August 2021, Handan has also held various roles including Medical Doctor with the General Medical Council since January 2020 and MRCSEd with The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh since August 2019. As a PhD candidate at the University of Liverpool since October 2018, Handan has contributed to the field as a medical retina fellow at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust from 2020 to 2021 and as a retina fellow at The University of British Columbia from September 2017 to September 2018. Previous experience includes a clinical research fellow at Doheny Eye Institute and comprehensive ophthalmologist with the Turkish Ministry of Health from March 2013 to July 2015. Education includes a Doctor of Medicine degree from Hacettepe University and completion of medical training at Ankara Numune Education and Research Hospital.
