Tim Ballew

Principal Software Engineer at General Dynamics Mission Systems

Tim Ballew has a strong background in software engineering, with experience in various companies and roles. Tim started their career in 1997 at ELECTRONIC ARTS (KESMAI STUDIOS) as a Software Engineer, where they contributed to the design of Air Warrior: Vietnam and Air Warrior 4. Tim was also responsible for designing the Artificial Intelligence subsystem for both games.

In 2002, Tim joined Castle Hill Studios as a Software Engineer, where they designed an AI system for a multiplayer vehicle simulation game and contributed to the design of an object-oriented client-server game framework. Tim also implemented physics systems for simulated vehicles.

From 2003 to 2012, Tim worked at ManTech International as a Senior Software Engineer. During this time, they were one of the original developers of Killchain/CAST, a mission-level operational model for conflict simulations in naval warfare and radiological detection domains. Tim designed and implemented Artificial Intelligence behavior using SOAR, C++, and Python. Tim also designed and implemented physics-based models for naval warfare and radiological detection simulations.

Since 2012, Tim has been working at General Dynamics AIS, initially as a Principal Software Engineer and currently as a Senior Principal Software Engineer. In their role, they are the lead developer for the Simulation and Element Emulation subsystems of a Java-based ballistic missile defense training system. Tim has rapidly mastered Java development and utilizes AGI's Satellite Modeling Toolkit and Missile Modeling Tools in their work.

Overall, Tim Ballew has a well-rounded work experience in software engineering, with expertise in AI systems, physics-based models, and simulation development.

Tim Ballew obtained their Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Michigan from 1989 to 1993.
