Braxton Underwood

Braxton has over 18 years of experience in the electric utility consulting industry as an engineer and consultant for GDS in the Hi-Line Engineering Department. His project experience includes arc flash hazard analysis, PV/Solar distributed generation design, underground and overhead distribution system design, system modeling, load flow analysis, sectionalizing, and overcurrent protection.

His expertise also includes power quality investigations and analysis of distributed generation interconnection on electric distribution systems. He has analyzed a wide variety of power quality issues including motor starting, harmonic content, flicker, and voltage stability. Braxton also provides system planning expertise to his clients and has completed numerous RUS long range plans, construction work plans, substation justification studies, and system mapping projects. Braxton also has experience assisting utilities with AMI meter evaluations, loss reduction, and power factor correction.

Braxton has also done extensive work at numerous military bases, which has included an inventory and evaluation of the overhead and underground electrical transmission and distribution systems and the valuation of those assets for Utility Privatization efforts. Braxton also helps his clients that own privatized utility systems with ongoing consulting services including contract management, proposal development, engineering studies, and negotiation assistance.

Braxton has authored or co-authored the following publications: Streetlighting Best Practices for APPA, Distribution System Arc-Flash Calculation Case Studies for CRN/NRECA, and the Underground Distribution System Operations Guide for CRN/NRECA.
