Awinja Wameyo has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Awinja began their career at Deloitte & Touche, East Africa as an Audit Senior, where they gained expertise in auditing private, public, and donor-funded organizations. Awinja then moved on to the African Development Bank Group, where they held various managerial roles, including Division Manager for Fiduciary Services and Compensation & Benefits. Awinja'sresponsibilities in these positions included overseeing the effective use of resources for development goals, strengthening country systems for fund utilization, and managing compensation policies and benefits administration for the bank's staff. Most recently, Awinja has been working at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, as the Director of Portfolio Financial Management and Director of Programme Capacity Assessments. In these roles, they lead teams responsible for maximizing investments in building strong health systems and identifying gaps in program capacity at the country level. Awinja is a member of the Gavi Leadership Team and has been instrumental in safeguarding financial resources and recommending system improvements.
Awinja Wameyo earned their Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree in Accounting from the University of Nairobi, which they attended from 1988 to 1991. Awinja then pursued their Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Accounting and Finance from The University of Manchester, where they studied from 2003 to 2005. Awinja also obtained their A Levels qualification from Alliance Girls High School in 1986 and 1987. In 1993, they became a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA K) through the institution ICPAK.
