In 2015, they were an Undergraduate Researcher at the University of Alberta, conducting research on the effects of phospholamban mutations on heart failure.
Laine continued their research work as a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of Alberta from 2016 to 2019, focusing on a Master of Science thesis project in biochemistry. Lysyk also gained international research experience as a Visiting Undergraduate Researcher at Leipzig University in 2015, studying the presence of DLK-1 in adipose tissue and its relation to obesity in children.
In 2017, Lysyk volunteered as a Lab Safety Coordinator and Lab Activity Leader at W.I.S.E.S.T., an organization supporting women in scholarship and technology. Laine also had a research visit as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Kaiserslautern, examining rhomboid protease activity in relation to membrane curvature and lipid composition.
In 2019, Lysyk joined Brinter as an Outreach & Marketing Associate, where they corresponded with partners, investors, and customers in the 3D bioprinting market. Laine then transitioned to the role of Research Scientist at Future Fields in 2020, before being promoted to Senior Research Scientist in July 2022.
In addition to their scientific career, Lysyk worked as an MCAT Biology Instructor at The Princeton Review from May 2020 to September 2021. In this role, they prepared and delivered lectures, demonstrated MCAT strategies, and taught biochemistry and biology topics to students preparing for the MCAT exam.
Laine Lysyk's education history begins in 2012 when they enrolled at the University of Alberta. They pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry, completing their studies in 2016. Following their undergraduate degree, Lysyk continued their education at the University of Alberta and obtained a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry, which they completed in 2018.
