Danbob Thompson

Lead Artist at Funko

DanBob Thompson has extensive work experience in the animation industry. DanBob began their career in 1997 with Disney Consumer Products and Interactive, where they served as the Senior Character Artist for the Mickey Mouse & Friends Franchise. DanBob managed a team of artists and reviewed art submissions for brand management.

In 2006, they joined Cartoon Network as a Character Artist, where they designed characters, backgrounds, and concept art for various TV shows. DanBob also created style guides and artwork for marketing and promotion, as well as collaborated on new content and created branded interstitials.

Thompson then moved to Walt Disney London in 2013, where they served as a Character Artist. DanBob was the lead artist for the Mickey Mouse & Friends Franchise, creating thematic poses and style guides for product development. DanBob also illustrated a range of Disney classic characters for various merchandise.

From 2016 to 2018, Thompson worked at DreamWorks Animation as a Background Layout and Paint artist. DanBob collaborated with the development team to design the style of backgrounds for a TV show and later created layouts, color scripts, and final paint renderings based on rough storyboard sketches. Their work on the show earned him a nomination for an Annie award in 2019.

Thompson then joined Illumination Animation in 2018 as a Character Artist and Background Designer. DanBob designed concepts and tight pencils for Minion characters and other properties, primarily for marketing and merchandise purposes. DanBob also designed background art for 2D Minion shorts and explored different styles for the Minions.

In 2019, Thompson joined The Walt Disney Company as a Character Designer for the Mickey Shorts Cartoons. DanBob was responsible for designing, drawing, and inking characters for the animated 7-minute shorts.

Most recently, Thompson is working at Funko as a Lead Artist starting in February 2023.

DanBob Thompson attended the California Institute of the Arts from 1993 to 1997, where they obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Character Animation.
