Back in 1999, when Richard co-founded Frontier, private equity was more split bettheyen early-stage VCs throwing cash at dotcoms and investors seeking LBOs of traditional family-owned manufacturing and distribution businesses.
What was missing was a firm focused on working with growth-stage tech companies to help them develop the strategies and priorities they needed to successfully execute on realizing their full potential.
A lot has changed since then, but Richard continues to steer the firm with this same commitment to providing the support and guidance the portfolio companies need to maximize their opportunity in the market. The way he sees it, it’s about parking the ego at the door and focusing on getting the right team in place with the restheces they need to make a difference.
When he’s not working with the companies, Richard is actively telling the Frontier story to founders and CEOs of prospective investments, explaining how they can help them fulfill the ambitions they have for their companies’ futures. He still gets a kick out of meeting the diverse group of entrepreneurs in the dynamic businesses that are defining and redefining the software industry today.
