Roy Stahlhut

Director of Tissue Culture Operations at Front Range Biosciences

Roy Stahlhut has over 25 years of experience in the plant sciences. Roy began their career in 1995 as Group Leader of Plant Cell Biology at Samyang Genex Corporation, where they established and managed the Plant Biology Group's research and development program for production of phytochemicals of pharmaceutical interest. In 1997, they moved to ForBio America as a Senior Scientist, managing research and production groups in the US investigating plant propagation methods. From 1999 to 2007, they worked at California Florida Plant Company as Research and Development Manager, managing a clean plant nursery stock program and plant micropropagation laboratory. During this time, they also managed a breeding program for development of new ornamental cultivars and developed new products and business opportunities in plant propagation. From 2007 to 2012, they were Senior Manager of the Propagation Nursery at Driscoll's, responsible for renovation of existing greenhouses, planning for new greenhouse construction, and developing an outdoor growing area and a micropropagation laboratory. From 2014 to 2018, they worked at Pacific Berry Breeding as General Manager, directing an operation of 14 employees for the breeding of new raspberry and blackberry varieties for corporate partners. During this time, they completed greenhouse and field infrastructure upgrades, documented all processes with SOPs, shifted in-ground growing to hydroponic and substrate production, and negotiated new contracts with micropropagators, field nurseries and shipping companies. From 2018 to 2019, they were Nursery and Tissue Culture Laboratory Manager at Agripharma. Most recently, they have been working at Bustan, Inc. since 2019 as IPM Manager and Grower. In 2021, they began working at Front Range Biosciences as Director of Tissue Culture Operations.

Roy Stahlhut obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Agronomy and Crop Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
