Richard Fateman has been working since 1984, starting with founding Franz Inc. In 1989, they became the Chair of Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley, where they have since held the position of Emeritus Professor, Computer Science. In 2007, they began working as an occasional consultant, providing expert witness services on patents and intellectual property. Since 2008, they have been a volunteer for the American Red Cross Bay Area, serving as a Sheltering Coordinator and Government Operations Lead, helping prepare their community for major disasters and assisting in small ones.
Richard Fateman obtained their BS in Physics and Mathematics from Union College in 1966. Richard then went on to Harvard University, where they earned their PhD in Applied Math (Eng'g & Applied Phys.) in 1971.
