Kerr received a BS degree in Energy Management from the University of Oklahoma in May 1981. He started as a Petroleum Landman with Champlin Petroleum, in Denver, in June 1981, holding various positions in the Land Department before joining Benson Mineral Group, in 1985, as Land Manager. Kerr later joined Phillips Petroleum Company as Director of Midcontinent Land and then accepted a position with Phillips 66 Natural Gas Company where he helped start GPM, the midstream and processing arm of Phillips Petroleum Company.
After 5 years in Houston, he accepted a move back to Denver with Kinder Morgan as Vice President of Marketing. Kinder later sold the Marketing company at which time Kerr joined Patina Oil and Gas Company, in 2002, to direct and grow the midstream and downstream business in the Midcontinent, San Juan, Piceance and DJ Basins. In 2005, Noble Energy purchased Patina Oil and Gas and Kerr was named Director of U.S. Onshore Marketing. In March 2015, he joined FourPoint Energy as Vice President of Marketing, responsible for the management and growth of the company owned midstream assets. He formerly served as Director of the Western Golf Association, was on the Board of Directors of Cherry Hills Country Club and was on the Executive Committee of the 2014 BMW Championship at Cherry Hills.
