Michael Santos is the current Vice President of Science at the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health. Prior to this, they served as a Strategy Advisor at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation from November 2013 to September 2019. In this role, they were responsible for strategy, innovation, and impact.
From October 2008 to November 2013, Santos served as a Principal at The Boston Consulting Group. During their time there, they led projects in global health and public media, as well as strategies in energy and environment in the public and private sectors. Michael also worked on growth strategies for health care, industrial goods, consumer, and retail companies.
Prior to their work at The Boston Consulting Group, Santos was an Institute Fellow at the Space Telescope Science Institute from September 2005 to August 2008. Before that, they were a National Science Foundation MPS Distinguished Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge from September 2003 to August 2005.
Michael Santos has a Ph.D. in Astronomy from Caltech, an A.B. in Physics and Astronomy from Vassar College, and they graduated from Perkins High School.
