Doug True began their work experience in 1983 at Wheaton Van Lines as a Graphics worker, where they applied decals on semi tractors and trailers. Doug then worked at Sears as part of the Inventory team from 1983 to 1988, where they held a self-directed position with inventory responsibilities and created a software application for tracking inventory. In 1988, they joined FORUM Credit Union as the Chief Executive Officer, a position they currently hold.

Doug True attended Indiana University Indianapolis from 1984 to 1988, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. Doug later pursued their Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Anderson University from 1996 to 1998.
