Matthew Zeigenfuse has a solid work experience in data science and research. Matthew started their career as a Systems Engineer at Raytheon in 2004, where they evaluated the performance of a distributed tracking system and developed interfaces between simulations and tactical software. In 2011, they became a Postdoctoral Fellow at Michigan State University, where they conducted research studies on human decision-making and published papers on the topic.
From 2012 to 2016, Zeigenfuse worked as a Postdoc in Psychology at the University of Zurich, where they continued their research and provided statistical consulting to the psychology department. Matthew then moved on to Fordham University as an Assistant Professor, conducting research on data science methods and teaching courses on statistics and statistical computation.
In 2017, Zeigenfuse joined Swiss Re as a Cognitive Data Scientist, delivering predictive modeling solutions and communicating results to stakeholders. Matthew worked on various projects, including risk-scoring engines, early warning systems, and digital imaging systems using deep neural networks.
Zeigenfuse then transitioned to Quartet Health, starting as a Senior Data Scientist before becoming a Principal Data Scientist, specializing in causal inference. Matthew led research and development for patient segmentation algorithms and conducted retrospective statistical evaluations. Matthew also mentored junior data scientists and served as a subject matter expert for data science within the organization.
After their time at Quartet Health, Zeigenfuse worked at Lily AI as a Senior Applied Scientist, developing machine learning models for user personalization and recommendation systems.
Most recently, Zeigenfuse joined Focus Brands LLC as a Lead Data Scientist, where they productionized and maintained a market basket recommender system for multiple brands. Matthew also designed and developed a similarity-based recommender system using REST API.
Throughout their career, Zeigenfuse has demonstrated expertise in various areas of data science, including machine learning, statistical modeling, and causal inference. Matthew has a strong research background and a track record of delivering impactful solutions in different industries.
Matthew Zeigenfuse earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Boston University in 2003. Matthew then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Cognitive Science at UC Irvine, completing their studies in 2010. Additionally, in August 2022, they obtained certification as an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
