Erik Coyne

Investor/member at Flywheel Fund

Erik Coyne currently serves as the Chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College, the largest statewide community college system in the United States, since May 2023. Coyne holds multiple board member positions, including with the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington. Coyne is also an investor/member of the Flywheel Fund. In addition to these roles, Coyne was an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington, teaching US Public Policy and Administration until May 2023. Previously, Coyne co-founded and served as COO of Folia, and held the role of COO at Branchfire, alongside founding Coyne Strategies, LLC. Coyne’s military legal experience includes serving as Deputy Judge Advocate under United States Forces Korea. Academically, Coyne holds a Bachelor of Science from the United States Air Force Academy, a Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law, and multiple master's degrees in National Security Strategy, Military Operational Art and Science, and Public Administration.

Flywheel Fund is a member-managed capital fund based in Bloomington, Indiana. We invest in early-stage and high-potential startups. Flywheel Fund is committed to investing a minimum of 13% of our fund to Black founders and teams. In-person office hours at The Mill: Thursdays, 9:30-11:30 We screen companies continuously to find the one that will be considered for investment every other month. The three main criteria we look for are:​ 1. Team 2. Market 3. Product Because we invest in early, team is extremely important. And in particular for software and technology, we’re looking for capital-efficient companies.
