Clay Ayers has extensive experience in tax and finance roles throughout their career. clay started as a Senior Tax Associate at Arthur Andersen in 1989 before moving on to become the Manager of Corporate Taxes at WorldCorp, Inc. Here, they were responsible for US tax compliance and accounting of income taxes under US GAAP.
In 1998, Clay joined MicroStrategy as the Director of Tax, where they played a key role in taking the company public. clay built the company's first tax department and implemented tax policies and procedures, compliance systems, and global tax planning strategies.
After their time at MicroStrategy, Clay joined webMethods, where they continued as the Director of Tax. clay was responsible for building the company's first tax department and implementing tax compliance systems and planning strategies. Notable projects included structuring the company's application development operations in China and India.
Clay then moved on to Watson Wyatt, where they served as the Director of Tax. During their five-year tenure, the company experienced significant growth through acquisitions in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
Following Watson Wyatt, Clay held the position of Vice President of Tax & Treasury at Serco - North America. In this role, their main objectives were to preserve cash and maximize cash repatriation through global tax planning.
Most recently, Clay worked as the Director of Tax at K2M, a global medical device company. clay played a crucial role in designing, developing, and commercializing innovative spine technologies. their role involved overseeing tax matters.
Currently, Clay serves as the Director of Tax at Fluence, where they continue to utilize their expertise in tax management and planning.
Clay Ayers holds a Master of Science degree in Taxation from American University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland. In addition, they have obtained a certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
